Refinished Vanity/Desk

I am back!!! After a few weeks of chaos, I am so ready to blog.  I have missed it!

I got this piece a few weeks ago off of Craigslist and it ended up having to refinish it quicker than I thought I would since a piece sold in our space.  :)  It was already white and of course I forgot to get a before picture.  I will give you a mental picture it had yellow paint streaks under the white and it had paint drips down the sides.  It was a nice solid piece with great details.

We gave it a quick sanding, applied two a couple coats of white paint, distressed, and glazed.  Minwax finishing wax and new hardware were the last steps.  I think it turned out great and look at those details!

Oh and remember my hutch, it sold!

Happy Friday to everyone!

Someday Soon......

I know I said that I would post about some upcoming projects I am working on but instead of working on fun things we are dealing with this......

We had a small flood in our kitchen on Wednesday night.  Our hardwoods have lifted, there is damage in the basement craft room, our counter tops & a few cabinets were ruined.  We have decided that we will go ahead and use this as a shove to do the kitchen remodel we have been wanting to do!  Has anyone had this happen to them?  If so, do you have any tips for us?

Pictures soon of the damage!

Decorating on a Small Budget

I know a lot of people feel they do not have the money to decorate right now with the economy and rising gas prices.  It is somewhat scary to spend a little on your home.  However, I feel your home is the space that shows off who you are and I think that when you enjoy how your home looks spending time at home isn't so bad.  I also know it can be done on a small budget.

Here are some tips on making your room makeover a small budget reality!

1.  I think the first step in budget decorating is to look at what you already have, move furniture & accessories to a new room or simply rearrange your furniture in that room.  Think outside the box with furniture.  Just because it says Buffet/Hutch doesn't mean it has to go in your kitchen or dining room.  Place it in your bedroom and display pictures, pottery, etc.

2.  Scour Craig's List/thrift stores/garage sales.  I will admit I use to be embarrassed as a younger teen/adult to go to these places.  Now some of my local thrift stores know who I am.   Don't be afraid to negotiate and look for thrift store sales.  When at these places look for things with good bones. and look past their  present form.  Think about what they would look like after a $4 can of spray paint!

3.  Don't be afraid to paint your space.  If you are nervous to paint your walls your favorite color because it is red use that color in your accessories.  If you have a small room stick to lighter colors to make the room appear bigger if you want a more dramatic area go darker with your paint color.

4.  Last tip don't just fill your space with things fill it with things you love!  Get rid of the things that you aren't crazy about.  A little spring cleaning is good for everyone!

Here are a few spaces that decorated on a small budget, your time not included! :)

Tomorrow I will share a couple of things I am working on for our space!

Enjoy!

Sunday Redo's

Saturday I picked this "could be cute" cabinet.  I painted the top with a thick layer of white paint and then distressed added some chocolate glaze and some new knobs.
They had bolts for the knobs which were not working for me.  ;)

I love the cabinet's makeover!

I also picked up this duck.  I thought it would be a good addition to the shop for spring.  However. the eyes kind of scared me.  So it got a good sanding, a layer of white, distressed and then chocolate glaze.  I think it looks much better.

I have been wanting to refinish a salt and pepper set.  I finally found a set on my thrift store outing!

What do you think of our Sunday redo's?  Enjoy

Bread Box Makeover

Sorry I have been MIA but our little boy was very very sick.  I have never been so scared in life and have never wanted to take the place of someone.  He had a horrible flu virus for 4 days.  I had no time to do anything but to care for him.  Then the hubby got a touch of it.
I tell ya no fun, but they are both feeling much much better.

We had a very productive day today!  I love days like that.  Anyways, I bought this bread box a few weeks ago at Goodwill.  I forgot to take a before pic but it was just boring wood color.  :)  Paint is so much more fun.  It has been in the garage waiting to be sanded.  Today the hubby finished it and I painted and distressed.  I think it came out great, wish I had a place for it.

Enjoy!
