Urn-sela Dresser

A few weeks ago my grandma called me and said I seen a dresser that needs some work but I really think it would be beautiful once it was fixed up and painted.  So she left it and went home.  When I got home from work she wouldn't stop talking about it.  So off her and I went to the thrift store.  We talked and decided to wait.  We literally  walked about 10 steps and slapped each other because we almost passed it up.  The "furniture guy" likes us so much he gave us a little bit of a deal!  This dresser had veneer missing and the thin wood detail between the drawers was missing.
BEFORE
We have been searching online to find out information on this dresser with no luck.  All it shows on the piece is MAH-343 1940.

This is were Urn-sela got her name.   We had this beautiful urn wood inlay covered with white paint and decided to sand it to show this off and I am so happy we did this. Have you ever seen a piece of furniture like this?
My business partner aka grandma is a perfectionist. She took the bottom piece and attached it to the top drawers and filled it in.  Looks so good you can't tell it was repaired.  A major perfectionist is always good to have on your side.

From what we can tell all the hardware is original.

Look at all those details!

Here she is all fixed up and beautiful.

We are so happy we didn't pass this one up.  I am sure she would have been gone very quickly and hopefully she is out the market door quick too and on to her new home!

For the Love of Beautiful Books

We recently inherited a big stash of older books, all thanks to my mom!  She is one of our "pickers", and is she good at it.  She can haggle with the best of them and has great taste.  I guess you learn from the best!  Any who, have you all seen books on Pinterest lately like I have? Aren't these books just gorgeous.  I haven't been so lucky to find anything that looks as beautiful as these, YET!

I am not much of a reader, the book has to get me in the 1st paragraph or I have trouble staying interested.  Ahhh, maybe that is why I have so many projects at one time! :) But right now I am in LOVE with adding books to my home decor.  It adds height, character and can even creates some mystery to friends on what is  really behind that cover. Great conversation starter!

I decided to give some of the books a little help to give them that chic look! So I added some different papers to them.  I think they turned out great.  Love the 3 varieties of paper to create some color breaks.

Funny thing I have never been a big fan of roses, but this one is my favorite!  I love the kraft paper look on the front and the rose paper just on the binding.  When my hubby and I started dating I told him we would break up if he sent me roses.  :)  I told him the other day that they are kind of growing on me and I like some of the colors.  He asked would this end in divorce if he got the wrong shade of pink?  I told him no way he is stuck with me FOREVER!

I think I may have a serious problem because I have to paint, distress, "den-geta" anything I touch. When my grandma and I find something that needs a little help we will say something like this will be gorgeous if we just "den-geta" it.  :)

What are some of your fun words you use in this crazy craft world?

Coffee Sack Coasters

If you are anything like us, you have a few coffee sacks lying around. I usually make a few coaster sets for shows and sell out of them. However, I wanted something different. So, I thought why not add one of my favorite materials to them, BURLAP!  I loved using the coffee sacks because the lettering & numbers were already on there!  We will be adding these to our ETSY store in a few days.

What projects do you have going on this week?

Old Crate to Sign

On Saturday we went picking!  I love to go hunting, it is such a blast. This time we went as a family and that is always so fun!  My husband likes the history behind everything and looking at things that his grandparents had when he was growing up.  It is really neat to see my 4 year old getting into "Junk" like we do!

When I saw this top piece from an old crate, I knew it would make a gorgeous sign. I had my hubby drill some holes and then I threaded a thick piece of off white frayed burlap for its hanger.

I love the way the knots look!  Isn't burlap such an awesome fabric?  It can be used for so many things.  This week we will be sharing our coasters we made with burlap coffee sacks!

I hope everyone is having an amazing week!

Terracotta Planters with some Patina

I am obsessed with patina lately!  I saw a few pins on terracotta planters on Pinterest the other day and decided to do a few of these for the show.  I absolutely love the aqua color family, it just makes my heart happy! Is there even an aqua color family?  LOL

I painted a couple layers of different colors to give them more of an aged look and added some distressing ink to the mix!  I really like how they turned out. They will be gorgeous with herbs or flowers in them.  I am so ready for SPRING.

What do you think about displaying them in the PEPSI crate?

Sugar Sack Apron

We have been super busy slaving away for the Sugar Plum in a few weeks. The weekend before this 2 day show I am in Dallas for work. So I am kind of freaking out, ok there is no kind of.  I AM TOTALLY FREAKING!  Anyways, this week I will be sharing different items we will be selling at the show.  We will also be adding some of these items to our Etsy shop.
So, what should one do when they have a large supply of sugar & feed sacks?  Well, make beautiful aprons like this of course.  :)
My talented grandma/business partner is an amazing seamstress and is the talent behind this beauty!  Doesn't the blue and red pillow ticking ruffles make this apron gorgeous?  I can take credit for those ruffles but that is about the extent of my sewing abilities.  However, I am learning.
So what do you think of these pretty little things?

Check back tomorrow to see what else we have been up to!

Gray Buffet

Tonight I started going thru pictures and found this one that I never posted.  I am sure there are many that I haven't :) When we got it off CL it was in rough shape.  The right side door wouldn't open and the bottom drawer was stuck.  When the Mr. got the door open there was Tax paperwork in it.  I called the woman we bought it from and she asked us to just shred it!  Wow, right?

It was stained in a light oak color when we got it and needed the WC touch.  Of course I forgot to take a before but I will be better about that in 2012.  I mixed up some white and dark gray and got a beautiful light/medium gray.  It definitely got a lot of love at Sweet William and went home to be used in an extra bedroom! It was definitely a beauty. I considered keeping it but I can't keep everything.  I don't have a big enough house!  However, in this business we work so hard to create beautiful pieces that we love and we should want to keep them all.  :)

Do you have a hard time letting go of pieces you refinish?

Two Tiered Jewelry Holder

I had a big jewelry box on my dresser but it had to go.  It was just way to bulky and took up to much space on our dresser.  So last weekend I put all my necklaces on a cute hanger but needed something pretty for my bracelets, earrings and pins.  I picked up the bowls at the thrift store yesterday for a total of $8 and the candlestick was in my thrift store stock pile at home.  All I really had to do was to spray the candlestick in Heirloom White.  After they dried I glued them to the center of the bowl  and then glued the top of the candlestick to the bottom of the smaller plate.

I really love the way it turned out.  I am the type of girl who loves jewelry and I feel that when it is displayed beautifully it can become a piece of your design. I say display them to show off who you are and to show off the things you truly love whether it be shoes, purses, jewelry, furniture, etc.  There is no rule that you can't have things that make you smile incorporated into your decor.

What things do you display in your home to show off who you really are?

Oh and please bare with me on the sharpness of my photos.  Within the last week I have been getting very soft focus so I am taking in for repair and it is going to take 3 weeks to get the thing back.  I am not happy at all considering it is only 6 months old. Back to the Point & Shoot for a while.  :(
Hope ya all have a wonderful weekend!

Photography

Within the last year I have really taken a huge interest in Photography.   Last year I took a digital photography class which took me from shooting auto to completely manual and I couldn't be happier.  I am still learning and I kick myself for not getting into this sooner. It has definitely become a passion of mine and I can get lost in it for hours. I recently enrolled in a Photoshop class because I didn't understand editing at all, it's amazing what you can do with it!

My husband brought me home tulips a few days ago and I just couldn't help but get pictures of these beauties.  We are already at 6" of snow and it is suppose to continue all day.  I am not complaining at all since I get a snow day with the hubby and my little boy! However I am looking forward to SPRING and nothing says spring is around the corner like tulips do!  :)

Happy Friday
:)

Coastal Green Duncan Style Table

We found this cute Duncan Phyfe style table on CL.  All it really needed was a good cleaning and a fresh coat of coastal green paint, the bones of it was in amazing shape.  The chairs had a bright pink rose print on them and that had to go!  We recovered them in a tan pillow ticking.  I must say I absolutely love how it turned out and I almost took our current table to Noble Treasurers and kept this one. However, it made it's way into the back of the truck and into the shop. :( If you live in the Denver Metro area check out the shops in Lafayette.

We are preparing for a big snow storm in Colorado!  That means I have the day off from my 8-5 job tomorrow.  :)  I have a few new things to show ya tomorrow that we just picked up for our show in March.  Can't wait to share with ya!  What is your favorite thing to do in a snow storm?  Mine is sledding and hot cocoa and at night a glass of wine by the fire!
